Rioting in DC

Protesters Demonstrate In D.C. Against Death Of George Floyd By Police Officer In Minneapolis

In cities all across the country, protesters were out in full force this weekend with calls for justice after the death of George Floyd. In some places, those peaceful protests turned violent. In Washington, DC last night, the United States Secret Service says at least 50 officers were injured during the riots.

Several buildings were set on fire. The Parish House connected to the historical St. John's Episcopal Church was set ablaze. The church was built in 1816 and every President since James Madison has attended services there. It sits directly across from the White House. Another public building in Lafayette Park was also set on fire and the large AFL-CIO office building located nearby was also burning.

On Friday, when protests began intensifying, the President and First Family were taken to an underground bunker at the White House.
